The Effect of Trans-Obturator Tape (TOT) Surgery on Female Urinary Incontinence and Female Sexual Functions

ABSTRACT

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Trans-Obturator Tape (TOT) surgery on female urinary incontinence and female sexual functions.

Methods: Patients who underwent transobturator tape (TOT) surgery between January 2018 and July 2021 were included. International Standardized Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), International Incontinence Inquiry Form (ICIQ-SF), Overactive Bladder Evaluation Form (OAB-V8) and Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6) questionnaires were applied in the preoperative period and postoperative 3rd month. Preoperative and postoperative data were compared.

Results: A total of 37 patients who underwent TOT surgery were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 58.6±7.1 years. The mean follow-up period was 15. 2±4.8 months. 22 (59.5%) patients had at least one additional disease. It was determined that the values of FSFI, ICIQ-SF, OAB-V8, UDI-6 scores in the preoperative period showed significant changes in the direction of improvement in the postoperative period. Conclusion: Trans-Obturator Tape (TOT) surgery reduces female stress urinary incontinence and has positive effects on female sexual function. In addition, it was observed that Mirabegron treatment, a β3- adrenoceptor agonist, started after TOT surgery, reduced the overactive bladder symptoms that developed after surgery.
