Compression Neuropathies coexisting with Motor Neuron Diseases: Case Report Abstract: Progressive muscular atrophy is one of the atypical motor neuron diseases that progress purely with lower motor neuron (LMN) involvement without upper motor neuron (UMN) involvement. Sensory signs and symptoms are not expected in motor neuron disease, also sensory abnormalities are not detected in electroneuromyography. However, compression neuropathies developing in motor neuron disease are rarely reported. It may occur due to the supportive devices for mobilization or in trapping region among bedridden patients. In such cases, in case of an abnormality in sensory nerve conduction tests, the diagnosis of motor neuron disease can be delayed. Consequently, if sensory signs and symptoms accompany strong clinical anterior horn involvement in a patient, it should be taken into consideration that compression neuropathies or age-related reduction in sensory nerve action potentials (SNAP) may have developed; moreover, a secondary condition that may cause sensory neuropathy may occur, as well.
